In Malaysia when we hear the name of a Malay conservative our first reaction will be this person must be trying to push a pan-Islamic agenda or trying to strengthen a big Malay ideology. However I think now is the best time to promote another version of conservative ideas. The current political dynamic is mostly focused on how to join the right team and form the government.
If we look at the US/Europe explanation on conservative ideas, they tend to focus on the idea of small government, free market, freedom of speech and the right to bear arms. Now we ask ourselves, do those Malay conservative groups promote those ideas as US/Europe conservative groups?? Clearly the answer is not. The expansion of Malay special rights meant the rise of government power. So this clearly is against the idea of a small government and free market. Moreover, when those Malay conservative organize any congress or seminar they often end up with one conclusion - please give more government contract to Muslim entrepreneur. Although most of the time, those Muslim entrepreneur failed to deliver what should be done and end up become bankrupt business but yet some people still interested in using citizens hard earn money to grow some useless Muslim entrepreneur.
From time to time we can saw the news that government take down non-Muslim business. In the recent Kedah story between gambling vs drug, we also can see how the free market has been destroyed by some people. I never intended to stop any people including Muslim to buy lottery, if you are adult and you should have the right to use you money in the way you like as long never against any law. Nowadays the state government of Kedah is using the power of the government to shut down all the lottery business which are legal under the federal constitution, and at the same time they also wanted to use the state government to push for drug business.
The inequality created by the Malay special right system is becoming political taboos, this is the Malaysia version of Elephant in the room. For those who believe that competition makes a greater society, we are witnessing the growing left wing economy which really benefits a small portion of people who have good relationships with the government. Left wing economy normally is state business vs private business, so you already can guess what will happen at the end. Long term losing money or resources being used the wrong way was often seen at those big state businesses.
Put a good name on your enemy otherwise you will lose your focus. From time to time we also witness these groups of Malay special rights demand the government or public to strengthen the Malay culture. However in their action, we would see them trying to impose more religious law and bringing more middle east Arabic culture to our country. The demise of the “wayang kulit” show clearly shows that the traditional Malay culture is also under attack by people from those Malay Special Right groups, and the reason is the show is not Islamic enough. If the so-called Malay conservative cannot stand out to defend their own cultural heritage, I think they should rename themselves and at the same time we as public should rename themselves also.
Based on the action done by those Malay conservative groups, I think now the media and the citizens should rename them as Malay Special Right group. Now is the perfect time to discredit them but sadly now every politician in Malaysia is much more eager to follow the trend to join the RIGHT TEAM to form government and keep making the government bigger and bigger. Prepare for more government spending if we never stop those groups of people taking charge in our country, and sorry there is no public money in this world, there is only the hard earned citizen money from us.
